Podium on FPA Debut

A podium finish allied to two strong points finishes have propelled A1 Team Ireland driver Niall Quinn to fourth place in the points standings after the first weekend's racing in the Formula Palmer Audi Autumn Trophy.

Revelling in the difficult conditions on the Brands Hatch Indy circuit, Quinn managed to improve on his grid position in all three races on Sunday, making it five races in a row this year that he has bettered his starting slot.

In race one the 20-year-old was soon into his stride and battling for the podium from fourth on the grid. Quinn enjoyed a near race long dice with England's Daniel Brown, holding off his rival on the final run to the line to score a fine podium finish on his debut in the category.

Quinn started race two from sixth on the grid having suffered with flat spotted front tyres in qualifying for races two and three. He was quickly up to fifth when the race got under way and that became fourth when another driver spun in the treacherous conditions.
Starting ninth for race three Quinn was quickly up into fifth place, holding off Daniel Brown for position for much of the race. When his rival slipped through at Paddock Hill bend with a couple of laps to go, Quinn quickly retaliated and regained the position at the next corner.

His rival had the advantage of available 'push to pass' power boost for the run to the finish line and, despite defending his line through the final corner, Niall had to be satisfied with sixth position as he lost out on the drag race to the finish line.

The result of his weekend's toils is fourth place in the championship heading to next weekend's second and final 'triple-header' event at Snetterton.

"That was a fun weekend's racing and it's nice to get some solid results," said the reigning Motorsport Ireland Young Racing Driver of the Year. "It was really difficult with the wind and rain but I'm happy to have brought the car home with three good finishes.

"It sets us up nicely for Snetterton next weekend and it's proving to be a very useful workout ahead of the next A1 Team Ireland event in Chengdu, China on November 14th."
